Is my website cited by AI? Here is how to check
You cannot improve what you cannot see. There are three reliable ways to check if AI engines mention and link your site.
See your AI-visibility score
Run a free scan and see how visible your site is to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI, as one of four subscores.
Check your AI visibility →Method 1: ask the engines directly
Ask each engine the questions your customers would ask, then see whether your brand or pages appear and are linked. Test ChatGPT with browsing on, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot. Vary the wording, because answers change per phrasing. Note which competitors get cited so you know the field.
This is manual but honest. It shows you the exact answer a real user sees, including which source got the citation link.
Method 2: check referral traffic in analytics
Open your analytics and look for referrals from domains like chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com and copilot.microsoft.com. Traffic from these means an AI answer linked you and someone clicked through. Track it over time as a simple, real signal of AI visibility.
Volumes are often small today, but the trend matters. A rising line from AI referrers is proof your GEO work is landing.
Method 3: monitor mentions and signals
Because AI answers are not fully trackable, monitor the inputs instead: whether AI crawlers can reach you, how answer-first your key pages are, and whether your brand is mentioned across the web. These signals predict citations even when a specific answer is hard to trace. Re-check them on a schedule, not once.
This is where a tool helps. Our free scan grades the on-page AI-visibility signals, so you get a score instead of a guess.
